Standard 6.1 - Identify and plan professional learning needs
Proficient Use the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and advice from colleagues identify and plan professional learning needs.
Throughout my teaching career I have worked with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers in multiple ways to develop my teaching practise and identify my professional learning needs. One major way has been through developing this portfolio to demonstrate I meet the proficient level of all the Standards. By completing this portfolio, I have been required to look closely at the proficient descriptions for each standard and then identify how I meet them.
This has made me reflect on my teaching practises and has helped me identify the standards that I need to continue working on. Through my professional development meetings, I have completed the AITSL teacher self-assessment tool a couple of times. This self-assessment tool clearly highlighted to me the areas that I need to continue working on. Below is two graphs from two different self-assessment tests that I have completed.
Through my professional development meetings, I have developed my performance and development plan with the support of my colleagues. Within the performance and development plans I have identified and made professional learning goals that connect with the Australian Professional Standards for Teaching. Below is a couple of examples of the goals set in my performance development plans with the Australian Professional Standards for Teaching annotated on them (click on them to see the whole image).
Through my professional development meeting I have also had a number of lesson observations done by colleagues. These observations are valuable feedback for a teacher and provide you with points to think about and consider. Below is a copy of one of the feedback sheets I have received from an observation done by a colleague.
