Standard 2.3 - Curriculum, assessment and organisation
Proficient Design and implement learning and teaching programs using knowledge of curriculum, assessment and reporting requirements.
My first three years of teaching have provided me with many opportunities to design and implement learning and teaching programs using my knowledge of the Australian Curriculum, and assessment and reporting requirements.
When planning a unit of work I always make sure I include the desired outcomes (achievement standard), the content descriptors being addressed, the general capabilities and cross-curriculum priorities included in the unit, and the coherent and well-sequenced teaching and learning plan. The images below of a Mathematics unit of work highlights these aspects on my unit plans.
My knowledge of the assessment and reporting requirements is shown through the use of the correct curriculum outcomes and achievement standards, and the inclusion of formative and summative activities. The reception unit plan below demonstrates some of the different forms of assessment that occur during my units of work. The red tasks are formative assessment activities and the green tasks are the summative assessment tasks. Throughout the unit I also made formative observations of students and their knowledge and understanding of the topic. These are used as a formative form of assessment that is purely for the aid of the teacher, in regards to future lessons and assessment comments that align with assessment and reporting requirements.
Over three years of teaching I have used the formative and summative assessment data I have collected to report on student achievements through end of semester reports and parent teacher interviews.
Below is some example of how I record my assessment data and some examples of assessment tasks completed.
