Setting challenging learning goals that are within students’ zone of proximal development is essential to ensure students are engaged and learning while feeling that they are being successful. There is a number of ways that I set explicit, challenging and achievable learning goals for students within my class.

Example 1:
An important part of creating One Student Plans and Individual Learning Plans is establishing SMARTAR goals to support the learning of these students. SMARTAR goals are: Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Time Considerations Agreed Upon Reviewed |
The image above is a sample of a SMARTAR goal that I established for a Reception student. This goal has all the elements of a SMARTAR goal and most importantly is explicit, challenging and achievable for the student.
