Standard 4.5 - Use ICT Safely, Responsibly and Ethically
Proficient Incorporate strategies to promote the safe, responsible and ethical use of ICT in learning and teaching.
ICT is a major component of teaching today. When using ICT it is important to promote the safe, responsible and ethical use of ICT in learning and teaching. There are many strategies that I use to do this within my classroom. These include: - Teaching cyber safety, digital citizenship and ICT safety - Explicitly teaching how to use ICT - Checking websites before using them within the class - Watching videos (especially YouTube ones) before viewing them in class - Choosing ICT content that is suitable for the age of students within the class - Monitoring what students are doing when using ICT
This year I taught digital citizenship to within a reception class. To support this, I used the Common-Sense Media: Digital Citizenship K-2 Lessons. As my class were on the younger side, I chose lessons that I thought were suitable for them and made sure the content was something they could connect with. The Common-Sense Media lessons can be found at the following web address https://www.commonsense.org/education/scope-and-sequence
The lessons I used focussed on: - How to go places safely on the computer - How you can use the alphabet to search for things - Information that you should keep private online - How to stay safe online - What can you do when someone is mean to you online - What makes a site right for you
