One major discussion we had at the beginning of the year was centred around how the students found adjusting to school challenging when coming from Kindy. We did some joint research and were really interested in adopting a more play-based approach that mirrors aspects of Kindy. We both attended a study tour of a school that implements the Kathy Walker Approach. Upon returning to school we both improved our teaching practice by implementing a more play-based approach to our teaching. Through this we collaborated planned these play-based experiences together. The document to the left is an example of one of the planners we created together.
From our experience and discussions with our colleagues we have decided that this play-based approach will be beneficial to students beginning reception as it helps reduce the gap from Kindy to School. |
