Proficient Establish and implement inclusive and positive interactions to engage and support all students in classroom activities.
It is important to establish and implement inclusive and positive interactions to engage and support all students in classroom activities. If students don’t feel welcome, supported and included within a classroom it makes it very hard for them to engage in the learning tasks.
There are a number of different ways I have established and implemented inclusive and positive interactions to engage students in activities. Below are some examples: - Conversations with parents, line managers and leaders - Class reward chat - Stickers - Understanding the needs of individual students through building relationships and rapport - setting and maintain behaviour expectations - classroom environment - Support forming groups by using pop sticks so it is random - Creating OSP for students who require them - Differentiation
Below are some more in depth examples.
Example One: I endeavour to make my classroom environment as welcoming and inviting as possible for students. I make sure that the posters on the wall are relevant to students learning. Below are some photos from my 2018 classroom.
Example Two: To ensure students with additional learning needs are supported and included within the classroom and the school yard I have filled out One Student Plans that outline any accommodations that need to be made in different learning areas. This is aimed at ensuring the child is supported and included in all school activities. Below is some examples of accommodations recommended for a student on a OSP.
Example Three: Another way I ensure students feel included and supported is through the use of differentiation to ensure the task is within students’ zone of proximal development. I have formed reading groups and writing groups of similar ability so the instruction I deliver to students in a group is at their level. Below is a couple of examples of how I recoded my differentiation in my unit plans.
